Our graduates: A/Prof. Cordelia Selomulya

Dr Cordelia Selomulya is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Monash University. She is one of  many Partcat alumni who is successful in their field.

She graduated from the University of New South Wales as Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with University Medal in 1998. Following this, she then pursued PhD in Chemical Engineering at UNSW under supervision of Professor Rose Amal and Dr Graeme Bushell focusing on the Development of an Integrated Model to Assess System Performance in Solid-Liquid Separation, which she completed in 2002. She was then working with the Leeds Institute of Particle Science and Engineering at Leeds University in the UK under guidance of Professor Richard William.

Dr Selomulya joined Monash University in 2006 as a lecturer in Chemical Engineering Department and now an Associate Professor in the same department who currently lead the Monash Advanced Particle Engineering Laboratory, MAPEL) and the Biotechnology and Food Engineering Group. She continue her research passion on the study of functional (nano) materials, particularly in characterisation and functionalisation of ‘smart’ materials for applications in diagnostics and therapeutics, food, pharmaceuticals, national security, and the environment.

Her recent interest has been focusing on spray drying technology which will benefit the Australian dairy industry.  With DIAL as industry partner through ARC Linkage Project, her group is now exploring a pilot-scale spray dryer with special features that include a unique microfluidic nozzle. The technology helps researchers understand how the properties of the precursor (the liquid fed into the nozzle) affect the final powder properties when subjected to different processing parameters and have taken the spray-drying technology to a whole new level of efficiency and product quality.

If research is your passion and you want to follow her footstep, contact us to find out how.
