Dr Gunawan has research interest in the fusion of cellular biology and nanomaterials engineering with expertise in the fundamental elucidation of nano-bio interactions. Her research fields span on the diverse areas of environmental nanotoxicology, microorganism resistance to antimicrobial nanomaterials, development of advanced nanomaterials for health care applications as well as biocatalysis for the removal of greenhouse gases.

She is currently a Vice Chancellor Postdoctoral Research Fellow at iThree Institute at University of Technology Sydney and an adjunct lecturer at School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW.
