Project

Title:  Lithium-ion capacitors based on two-dimensional framework materials

With the critical judgements of the high price and serious environment pollution of non-renewable fuels and the development of renewable energy sources, including wind and solar power, which require highly efficient solution for electricity storage and transport, electrochemical energy systems (EESs), especially lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and supercapacitors (SCs), are becoming the highlight in energy research area for their reliable performance and high energy efficiency (>95%). Beyond this, lithium-ion capacitors (LICs), a hybrid device which combines the advantages of both SCs and LIBs are widely study recently. Within those active materials for LICs, 2-D framework material exhibits high power density and energy density, as it not only provides suitable ion diffusion channel for fast ion diffusion, but also offers large amount of inter-layer ion storage positions, enhance the capacitance significantly.

In this project, we aim to develop a series of 2-D layered structure pesudocapacitive materials with various layer distances, framework chemical compositions and also inter-layer functional groups to improve the performance of the material. Also, LIC device will be designed and the influence factors will be discussed either.
