Project summary

Titanium is globally employed, playing a significant role in aerospace and biomedical fields. Oxide based surface nanostructures synthetically fabricated on titanium have been shown to exhibit beneficial properties. Hydrothermal etching (HTE), a process involving etching in an alkaline solvent, typically at elevated temperatures (> 100 °C), is proven to fabricate an extensive range of nanomorphologies on titanium. My project focuses on developing low temperature, industrially relevant, hydrothermal techniques to fabricate nanosurfaces with antimicrobial properties. Further investigation into the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the nanostructures aims to confirm the functionality of treated titanium in commercial scenarios.
