Our recently published article in the Journal of Materials Chemistry A which revealed on how the heteroatom-doped nanocarbons behave in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) has been selected as Hot Article for 2017 web collection for the journal.
The article elaborates on the functional roles of oxygen and nitrogen sites in nanocarbon catalysts, in particular highlighting their differences and the combined results by using reduced graphene oxide (rGO) prepared through thermal-shock exfoliation technique. The study also showed that the different in functions can jointly promote the ORR in cooperation when appropriately combined. The finding reported here will provide a basis for the chemical reactivity of the active nitrogen sites in nanocarbon for ORR activity and anticipate that it will pave way for a thorough understanding of non-metal carbocatalysts for the ORR and O2 activation.
