New way to design Bismuth based semiconductors for photocatalytic water splitting

In the recent paper published in Chemical Engineering Journal, Wu et. al, demonstrated that the hydrothermally prepared Bi2MoO6:Bi2Mo3O12 heterojunction improved the photocatalytic water oxidation, due to the staggered band energy levels which are beneficial for efficient charge separation. The findings presented herein provide new avenues to design a bismuth molybdate-based heterojunction material with useful photocatalytic water oxidation capabilities.
