3. Nuragilli Winter School 2014

The Nuragilli Winter School  is a program specifically for Indigenous students in years 10, 11 and 12 who are considering further studies beyond high school. The week long residential program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to experience what university life is all about, through participation in academic lectures and tutorials, presentations, study sessions, team building activities, interacting with university staff, current students and fellow applicants, cultural activities and more.

4. Women in Engineering Luncheon 2013

The Women in Engineering Lunch (WIE) was  held on 22 October 2013 with guest speaker Dr Mehreen Faruqi and Professor Judy Raper – two very successful female Engineering (UNSW Alumni). A number of female undergraduates from School of Chemical Engineering were invited to  meet and hear from these two successful alumni as well as inspiring stories from Professor Rose Amal (previous winner of Judy Raper Women Leadership Award 2012). 6. Primary and High School Students visit – Monday, 10th December 2012

On Monday, 10 December 2012, a number of students from local primary and secondy school visited the Particle and Catalysis Research Lab in the Tyree Energy Building. During this visit, the students learned about liquid Nitrogen and how to make ice-cream using liquid Nitrogen. The students also learnt how to decode  secret message using magic ink. They had fun with ‘gooey slimey’ experiment made of starch and water  where students learnt about ‘Non-Newtonian Liquid’ concept. If you are interested to find out more about our outreach activities or would like to attend the activity in the future, please email: Mandalena

7. Honeywell Summer School Program

As part of Honeywell Engineering Summer School Program at UNSW, Partcat held a Hydrogen Car Competition for a group of Year 11 students. The students learn about how does a Hydrogen car work – which is through hydrogen fuel cell where electricity is created via electrochemical reactions. If you are interested to find out more about our outreach activities or would like to attend the activity in the future, please email: Mandalena

8. UNSW Open Day 2012

Open Day 2012

Partcat group led by Prof Rose Amal, showed off their research to eager Year 12 students during UNSW Open Day 2012.

Ever wondered if it is possible to treat polluted water and generate clean energy at the same time? Our research featuring simultaneous degradation of organic pollutant and hydrogen production was shown during Open Day 2012. Prof Amal and her team showed the science behind this phenomenon, all questions answered! Well, if you think that is cool, the students also get a hands on experience with Hydrogen Car and even have a race. If you are interested to find out more about our outreach activities or would like to attend the activity in the future, please email: Mandalena

Graduation 2013

Partcat celebrated one of the biggest graduation day on Thursday, 13th June 2013. 70 students received their Bachelor of Chemical Engineering or Industrial Chemistry, 14 of them doing Honours Project with Partcat, 2 of them are University Medallist (Mr Tze Hao Tan and Ms Elizabeth Killen) and 6 of them received Honours 1 (Ms Huiling Tan, Ms Ee Teng Kho, Ms Shi Nee Lou, Mr Roong Jien Wong, Ms Emma Lovell, Mr Cameron Fletcher). Seven of these graduated students are coming back to pursue PhD with Partcat.

We also have four PhDs graduating on the same day: Dr Esther Kok, Dr Hilda Wiogo, Dr Roslyn Tedja and Dr Wenny Irawaty. They  are now pursuing their career in A-STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research) Singapore, IPH School’s Indonesia, EnGeneic Ltd Australia and University of Widya Mandala, Indonesia.
