Brief bio

Dr. Zhipeng Ma is currently a postdoctoral research associate at School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW, Sydney. He received his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering under the supervision of Scientia Professor Rose Amal at UNSW in 2022. He is also a committee member and researcher of ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for the Global Hydrogen Economy (GlobH2E).

My research is in the fields of electrocatalysis for the production of chemical feed stocks, i.e., ammonium, urea, syngas (CO+H2), formate, ethylene, performic acid, ethylene oxide, and ethylene glycol etc. The research intent is to develop highly efficient catalyst materials, as well as process and reactor/unit designs, with the purpose of optimising the activity and stability of the catalyst, selectivity toward reaction products as well as scalability of the process. Specifically, my projects encompass:

•Development of NOxRR system for ammonia/ammonium production.

•Design, development and optimise catalyst for ammonium, urea, and different hydrocarbon production

•Mechanistic studies to investigate surface chemistry and reaction pathway for selective tuning of CO2 reduction reaction and efficient conversion of CO2 reduction products (syngas, formate, ethylene, etc.)  to value-added chemicals via electrocatalysis.
